A motorcycle crash happens in seconds, but what you do next can shape the rest of your recovery — physically, financially, and legally. Adrenaline masks pain, and the choices you make at the scene often matter more than you realize.
Here is the checklist we give every rider in Texas.
1. Get to safety and call 911
Move out of traffic if you can, and call law enforcement no matter how minor the crash seems. A police report creates an official record that protects you later.
2. Seek medical attention immediately
Even if you feel fine, get checked out. Internal injuries and concussions often do not show symptoms for hours or days. A gap in treatment is the first thing an insurer uses to devalue your claim.
3. Document everything
If you are physically able, photograph the vehicles, the road, your gear, and your injuries. Get the other driver’s information and the names of any witnesses.
4. Do not admit fault — or talk to their insurer
Say as little as possible at the scene, and never give a recorded statement to the other driver’s insurance company before speaking with an attorney. What feels like a polite conversation is designed to reduce what they pay you.
5. Call a lawyer who rides
The sooner an attorney gets involved, the more evidence can be preserved. At Steel Horse Law, your consultation is free and you pay no fees unless we win.
